Recipe: Lamb Shank with Mash

This lamb shank with mash is so delicious that you will have people talking for days after the meal. My tip? Make extra, because it's even better the day after!

Lamb Shank Recipe


  • 4 lamb shanks (serves 4)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil 
  • 2 tins organic tin tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons fruit chutney
  • 2 to 3 cups of beef stock 
  • 1 teaspoon coconut sugar
Lamb Shank with Vegetables

Vegetables (no rules)

  • 2 large potatoes cut into chunks
  • 1 large pumpkin or sweet potato cut into chunks  
  • 1/2 cup peas
  • 1/2 cup broccoli florets
  • 2 chopped carrots
  • 1 zucchini chopped
  • 1 pile string beans
  • White onion 


  • Real bacon bits
  • Cumin
  • Paprika
  • Tumeric
  • Coriander
  • Ina Paarmans braai & grill 
  • Salt and black pepper to taste 



Brown shanks with chopped onion add dry spices 

Add tin tomatoes 

Add chutney and Worcestershire sauce

If you like more sweetness add coconut sugar 

Toss in vegetables and churn in the pot to get the flavours sealed in

Pour over the stock and hot water to adjust consistency

Cook for 2 to 3 hours until lamb is soft and sauce is thick 

Serve with mash or rice
